Cinema Interruptus Tradition and Memento Screening

Cinema Interruptus is a communal film criticism tradition established by the University of Colorado Boulder’s Conference on World Affairs. The format features audience participation, allowing viewers to pause the screening to ask questions or spark discussion. Memento had its U.S. festival premiere at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

Partnerships and Institutional Support

The Sundance Institute and UCLA Film & Television Archive are jointly establishing the Sundance Institute Collection at UCLA for film preservation. This collection currently holds material from over 1,000 titles. It has already participated in numerous restorations, including Hoop Dreams, Paris Is Burning, Better Luck Tomorrow, and Swoon. This institutional effort shows the festival's commitment to safeguarding independent film history.

Single Film Tickets will go on sale January 8, 2027. In-person and online ticket packages are currently on sale. The festival will honor the legacy of founder Robert Redford and continue to uplift independent voices through this new programming. The work of preserving these films ensures that the history of independent cinema remains accessible in Sundance's new home.
