Russell Brand Faces Seven Rape, Assault Charges at Trial
Russell Brand is on trial at Southwark Crown Court for seven sexual offense charges involving six women, with his wife Laura Gallacher testifying to his character as the jury nears deliberations.

Russell Brand, 51, faces seven charges at Southwark Crown Court. The charges, which he denies, are three counts of rape, three of sexual assault, and one of attempted indecent assault, relating to six women and alleged incidents between 1999 and 2009.
The trial, projected to last up to ten weeks, is entering its final stages. The jury is likely to retire to consider its verdicts on Tuesday. Prosecutors have laid out a series of specific allegations spanning a decade. They claim Brand raped a woman after meeting her at a Labour Party fringe event in 1999. Another allegation states he forced a woman to perform oral sex in a London bar toilet in 2004. Further claims include molesting a woman at a radio station in 2004 or 2005, trying to drag a woman into men's toilets at MTV Europe in 2001, anally raping a woman in 2009, and assaulting a woman during a recording project. The prosecution told the jury Brand viewed women as a 'means to an end'.
Defense Testimony
In his defense, Brand pleaded not guilty to all allegations. He acknowledged engaging in 'reckless' sexual activity and 'philandering' during the period in question. Brand testified that he did not remember incidents involving three of the alleged victims. On the stand, he stated that "sexual consent is fundamental, essential, necessary."
His wife, Laura Gallacher, 39, testified as a character witness. She described Brand as caring, kind, a wonderful father, and an amazing husband. Laura Brand said: "I feel very seen by him... I love him very much." She stated their relationship is built on honesty and that they first dated in 2006, engaging in a full sexual relationship at that time.
Relationship Timeline
Brand and Gallacher's relationship has experienced breaks and reconciliations. They first began dating in 2006 after meeting at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. They broke up due to Brand's inability to be monogamous. Brand was previously married to singer Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012. He and Gallacher reconnected in 2015, after that marriage ended, and married two years later in 2017. The couple now has three children together.
