Dell Workstations Use Nvidia AI for Design
Dell has updated its Pro Max and Pro Precision workstations with Nvidia's latest Blackwell GPUs and AI-assisted visualisation to accelerate real-time design workflows, moving from concept to presentation faster.

Dell has incorporated Nvidia GPUs and AI-assisted visualisation technologies into its workstation portfolio to support real-time design. According to the company, this helps close the gap between initial design concepts and final client-ready presentations.
Real-time workflows are changing how design studios operate. Teams can now create photorealistic images and explore multiple options interactively. They can also test ideas and design iterations as 3D models are updated.
A Shift in Design Thinking
Dell suggests that visualisation is becoming part of the design thinking itself. It is shifting from a specialist output at the presentation stage to a tool for concept development and decision-making during the design process. Ken Flannigan, Dell's AECO alliances and solutions director, told Dezeen that the role has been democratised to the actual designer.
Powering the Workflow
To support these workflows, the Dell Pro Max and Dell Pro Precision workstations are equipped with the latest Nvidia RTX PRO GPUs from the Blackwell generation. These professional GPUs combine traditional ray-tracing hardware with AI-processing capabilities.
The workstations support Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). This AI-assisted technology uses pre-trained models to upscale images rendered at a lower resolution. It also generates additional frames and improves ray-traced image quality.
Flannigan explained this represents a significant change. It moves from relying on increasingly powerful hardware alone to combining GPU performance with AI-assisted processing. He stated that it is not just power, but power plus these pre-trained AI intelligent models that are allowing users to work faster. He added that the intelligence behind the GPU got better.
Local Compute Advantages
Dell argues for processing workloads locally on workstations instead of using cloud-based services. The company suggests studios benefit from quicker workflows and maintain more control over their design data. While cloud services are important for storage and collaboration, local compute can offer more predictable operational costs. It also aids intellectual property protection and data governance.
Flannigan added that bringing it locally means buying compute, not renting compute. He noted this is particularly beneficial for architecture firms handling sensitive project information and client data, which cannot always be processed through centralised cloud services.
Flannigan also noted these technological advances may improve energy efficiency by reducing power consumption and heat generation.
The Future of AI in Design
Looking ahead, Flannigan emphasised the growing importance of local computing as design firms begin training AI tools on their own proprietary data. He warned of a potential homogenisation of design if everyone uses the same centralised data source. He stated that if we are all training visualisation and design aesthetics on a centralised data source, everything in the future designed by AI will eventually look exactly the same.
He stressed the critical need for designers to retain their unique creative voice. Flannigan added that it is really important for designers to own their AI-trained design aesthetic.
