NYFF64 Talks Lineup Features Hamaguchi

Film at Lincoln Center today announced the lineup for its Talks and Crosscuts series for the 64th New York Film Festival (NYFF64). The program will run from September 25 through October 12 at Lincoln Center and other city venues. Amos Vogel Lecture

The sixth annual Amos Vogel Lecture will welcome Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, director of the Cannes-winning Main Slate selection All of a Sudden. The lecture, founded in 2021 to honor the pioneering film programmer, author, and NYFF co-founder, is delivered by an artist or thinker who embodies Vogel’s subversive spirit. Hamaguchi’s latest work is described by Vogel as cinema that “a place of magic where psychological and environmental factors combine to create an openness to wonder and suggestion.”

Deep Focus Talks

The Deep Focus Talks feature in-depth dialogues with festival filmmakers. James Gray, director of Paper Tiger, will converse with Martin Scorsese. Lee Chang-dong, of Possible Love, Mike Leigh, of Tender Loving Care, Valeska Grisebach, of The Dreamed Adventure, and Ava DuVernay, of 14th, will also participate. These conversations aim to explore the creative processes behind the films selected for NYFF64.

Crosscuts Pairings

Crosscuts pairs filmmakers across festival sections, genres, and styles. Andrew Haigh, of A Long Winter, will discuss with Ira Sachs, of The Man I Love. Pedro Almodóvar, of Bitter Christmas, will converse with Sofia Coppola, of Making Marie Antoinette. Alain Gomis, of Dao, will join Arie Esiri and Chuko Esiri, of Clarissa, in a broader dialogue about contemporary cinema.

Roundtables and Live Discussions

Roundtable discussions include Seeing Stars, a panel with casting directors who showcase their ingenuity across NYFF64 ensemble casts. Making the Cut explores film editing and how editors’ creative contributions interact with directors, cinematographers, and others. NYFF Currents and The Edges of Cinema feature scholar and critic Erika Balsom leading a panel of filmmakers from the NYFF64 Currents lineup.

Film Comment, the independent film magazine, will host two live discussions: Sex in the Cinema, focusing on what thrills and terrifies us about sexuality on screen; and the annual Festival Report, covering highlights from NYFF64 with Film Comment editors and critics. NYFF Trivia Night, hosted by Cinephile: A Card Game creator Cory Everett, returns for its fifth year in the Amphitheater at Film at Lincoln Center’s Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center. The event includes multiple trivia rounds on NYFF history and beyond, with chances to win tickets to sold-out NYFF64 screenings and other prizes. The night is sponsored by MUBI.

Tickets and Access

Passes are on sale now in limited quantities. NYFF64 single tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, September 15 at noon ET, with pre-sale access for FLC Members and Pass holders prior to this date. Becoming an FLC Member by August 28 secures NYFF64 pre-sale access and discounted tickets year-round. Tickets for all free Talks and events will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning one hour prior to each event at the box office. Tickets are limited to one per person, subject to availability.
