Widow's Bay Dominates Creative Arts Emmys Night Two
The second night of the 78th Creative Arts Emmys saw Apple TV's 'Widow's Bay' win eight awards, while 'DTF St.
The 78th Creative Arts Emmy Awards concluded its second night by honoring creative artists in drama, comedy, television movies, and limited series. The ceremony served as a preview for the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards broadcast.
Apple TV's freshman horror-comedy series Widow's Bay was the night's top winner, securing eight awards. The show's victories included production design for a half-hour program, costuming, music composition and supervision, casting, cinematography, and both sound editing and mixing. Betty Gilpin won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in the show, overtaking five guest stars from Hacks and previous winner Jamie Lee Curtis from The Bear.
Comedy and Legacy Honors
The comedy field saw Hacks, which ended its five-season run in May, take home one award for picture editing from its 17 nominations for the evening. In a bittersweet moment, Rob Reiner posthumously won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his appearance in season four of The Bear. Presenter Wendi McClendon-Covey invited a standing ovation, saying, "It's appropriate to stand for this one. I know we all wish Rob could be here tonight."
The Television Academy also unveiled the inaugural Legacy Award, recognizing the 75-year-old classic I Love Lucy. The award honors the show "for its profound and generational impact on the television industry and audiences around the globe."
Tight Races in Drama and Limited Series
In drama, a two-way race emerged between reigning champion The Pitt from HBO and Apple TV's newcomer Pluribus. Each series won four Emmys during the night. With 25 overall nominations, HBO's medical drama is positioned to repeat as Outstanding Drama Series next week, but the report suggests Pluribus will put up a strong fight.
The limited series competition is between HBO's DTF St. Louis and the second season of Netflix's Beef. DTF St. Louis won six awards, including both supporting acting categories, writing, and directing. Beef won three awards. The report states it will be tough for Beef to overcome that deficit at the Primetime ceremony.
Other Notable Winners
Several canceled shows left as winners. Prime Video's Spider-Noir took five awards, including stunt coordination, sound editing, cinematography, title design, and special visual effects for a single episode. Apple TV's Palm Royale won two awards. Another Apple TV series, Margo's Got Money Troubles, won three awards.

An edited version of the two-night Creative Arts Emmys ceremony will air on FXX on Saturday, September 12 at 8 p.m. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock on Monday, September 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Emmy winner Mariska Hargitay will host the Primetime event.
