Ome Dezin and Lumens Transform 1990s Los Angeles Residence

Los Angeles studio Ome Dezin has collaborated with design platform Lumens to transform a 1990s residence in the Hollywood Hills. The property, originally designed by architect Jeff Mills, was once home to an A-list actor and later converted into an art gallery. ## Restoring the Original Architecture The residence, situated on over an acre of land in a mature forest, was stripped of its original features, leaving white-washed walls, tall ceilings, exposed beams, and expansive spaces. Ome Dezin founders Jesse Rudolph and Joelle Kutner restored the original architecture, making minor alterations to create a livable home. These changes included adding a gym, converting an upstairs guest bedroom into the primary bathroom, and erecting an exterior sauna and full bathroom. ## Blending Earthy Materials and Iconic Furniture To bring depth, layers, and warmth to the home, Rudolph and Kutner used wood to clad entire walls in the main living spaces and bathrooms. They also introduced atypically tall wood baseboards to create a sense of continuity throughout the home. Stone, such as richly veined marble in the bathrooms, was employed to embellish the natural aesthetic. The kitchen is enveloped in a distinctive blue stone, while the island is clad in a rust-toned variation with an aged, tactile finish. When it came to furnishing the residence, Ome Dezin teamed up with Lumens to choose distinctive pieces to complete the spaces. They selected favourites such as gold Ingo Maurer pendants for the kitchen, along with pieces from Foscarini and In Common With. Furniture was then layered in, from Gubi dining chairs to statement pieces like a striped Up chair by Gaetano Pesce and Frank Gehry's Wiggle Chair. ## A Harmonious Blend of Function and Art Lumens chief marketing officer Dana Gers described the result as a harmonious blend of individuality and coordination. "What I love about the result is that you feel the individuality of each piece, but nothing feels overly coordinated," Gers said. "There's a sense of discovery to it. It feels collected, personal and entirely at home within the architecture." The photography is by William Jess Laird.
